For those of you interested in what you should bring, if you can, to you first build night, here is a basic guide to help you out.
Part 1: Weapon Core
For the core of your weapon, you want to use a fiberglass rod. For a sword/club/etc (one handed) you want a 1/2" rod this gets cut down, and you can get 2 swords out of one rod. For a 6' glaive or spear, you will want the thicker one that sits rite next to the 1/2". These are both available at Fleet Farm for a couple bucks. You want to make sure you get the white ones, as the gray ones are a little thinner and too flexible. If you think you want to do a shield, you want to get a 2' square sheet of 1/2" plywood (available for sure at menards, and i think fleet farm as well) and make sure you let us know you want to do that, so we can bring a jig saw to cut it into a circle.
Part 2: Foam
The foam that you want for the main part of any weapons or shield comes from the blue camp pads from walmart. They are 5.88 before tax, 6.29 after tax. One pad will probably get about 3-4 one handed swords. Plan on 2 pads for a typical shield, and one full pad for a glaive.
If you want to make a glaive or spear which could have a stabbing tip, you will want to get a Nerf football to use as the stabbing foam as well.
Part 3:Rope
The handles are typically wrapped in rope to make them more gripable, If you want to choose the color of your handle, you will want to pick up some rope, otherwise, we can supply rope for your first weapons.
There are other pieces to the puzzle which if you want to supply, it would be great, but we are happy to help with for your first buildings. some of these things are: Duct Tape, black cloth grip tape, double sided carpet tape and DAP contact cement.
You will also need a cloth cover for your weapon before you can use it. If you have a sewing machine at home, they are fast and easy to make, if not, let us know and we can help you get one done.
Let me know if you have any questions!
