We would like to start using a new rule set in place in Madison regarding garb. The house rule is that if you are not wearing sufficient garb, you can not call "light" or "garb" while fighting, you must take everything. Now, garb is pretty easy and cheap to get. A plain colored t-shirt (black, white, tan brown etc.) with black sweatpants and a tabbard over it would work fine. A tabbard is easy to make, Just buy 2 yards of fabric, but a head hole in the middle, and you're set.
For new fighters, we will waive this rule for the first 4 practices, but after that, this rule takes effect.
Feel free to ask questions on passing garb, or if you want any help making some. We are here to help.

How thick does a tabbard need to be. I think I may have bought twice as much fabric as I need.

my tabbards are one layer of fabric thick, depending on what fabric you got, it may be worth it to double up if you have enough fabric.
